Google Project 10^100
Late last year, Google
announced Project 10^100, and asked Internet users everywhere to come up with ideas to change the world by helping as many people as possible. Google pledged to support the program with $10 million. Thousands of people, from over 170 countries submitted over 150,000 ideas. Google has sorted, evaluated, and selected sixteen basic ideas in a variety of categories, and wants people to vote on which they they would be the best to support. There are a lot of pretty smart ideas for improving life, particularly for improving life in ways that will affect very large numbers of people, all over the world. A lot of thought went into the thousands of suggestions, and into selecting the best and "bundling" them into groups of related ideas. The basic categories include financial service changes, housing, community, education . . .
Google is now asking us to vote for one of these idea. They will then use our votes to help an advisory board choose up to 5 projects to fund. Once they have five projects, Google will use a "Request for Proposals" to identify the best methods and organiztions to partner with in order to implement the ideas. Voting will take at most ten minutes of your time, and it could actually help make the world a better place. Go here to vote.
