Action Alerts: Birds, Gulf Coast, Special Olympics
Here are just a few things you can take action on today. Feel free to add other actions in the comments below!
Protect Rare Birds and Sea Turtles
When you think of off road vehicles, you don’t really imagine the destruction they can cause—or, at least, I don’t. But the reality is that off road vehicles create a lot of damage to area wildlife and native species—not to mention cause undue distress and irritation to beach goers, campers, and other visitors. Please contact the National Park Service to express your concern about off road vehicles and support for their regulation.
Tell Chevron to Clean Up Their Act
You may have already heard about Chevron’s destruction of Ecuador’s rainforests due to oil spilling. But did you know that they have subsequently intimidated the people of Ecuador who are trying to fight to get their land cleaned up? Chevron has also extended its tactics toward filmmakers and activists who hope to raise awareness about the plight the Ecuadoran people now face because of this company’s carelessness. Please send Chevron a message and let them know that the tactics need to stop—and that it’s time for them to clean up their own messes.
Demand Clean Energy, Prevent Oil Spills
The Gulf Coast oil spill is now estimated to be about five times larger than originally thought—not the “chocolate milk” that politicians may have us believe. It’s high past time we ended our dependency on oil, which endangers lives and is running out even as we speak, and develop a new clean energy plan for a sustainable future. Help prevent oil spills from happening and ask Congress to focus on clean energy, not more drilling, today.
Help Pass the Eunice Kennedy Shriver Act
Eunice Kennedy Shriver was a champion for people with disabilities and her legacy lives on in her beloved cause, the Special Olympics. Please call your legislators today to ensure that the Eunice Kennedy Shriver Act passes and that financial aid, grants, and other endowments will be granted to the Special Olympics for the next five years.
Save America’s Rainforest
Logging and development in the Tongass National Forest of Alaska, America’s rainforest filled with old growth trees and diverse wildlife, seems like it’s always being brought up for debate. Why do we even still consider this? Please tell Congress that we should leave this wild area and its inhabitants—brown bears, bald eagles, pacific salmon and more—alone.
