    Granny DGranny DWhether you were able to meet the delightful Doris “Granny D” Haddock in person or only saw her on television or in her documentary, Run Granny Run, you know that this woman had a certain sparkle, a certain gumption, that so many people just don’t have these days.

    You also know that she spoke for the people, and in 2000, at the age of 90 she walked all across the United States to promote the McCain-Feingold Campaign Finance Reform Act—which successfully did pass.

    Granny D died last Tuesday, March 9 at her home in Dublin, New Hampshire. Up until just four days before her death, she was still up and working for the American people, election reform, and general justice for all.

  • Which Fortune 500 Companies Lack Female Board Members?

    We Need More Women In Corporate AmericaWe Need More Women In Corporate AmericaWhich Fortune 500 companies are the worst for women to work for?  This particular survey collected data on which companies do not have women in their top-tiered management positions and which companies do not have any women on their Board of Directors. Both are interesting criteria and give a more interesting perspective than just looking at the companies based on wages alone.

  • Today is Peace Corps Day

    Let’s see a virtual show of hands—how many people, at least at one point in their lives, wanted to join the Peace Corps? Now how many actually did join? Yeah, me neither.

    It was always a huge dream of mine to join. I thought I’d get to use my Spanish, help rebuild communities, or at least teach little kids to read. Little did I know that I’d have a kiddo of my own before I graduated college! Still, it remains on my Living To Do list, as someday when my child is grown I could still possibly serve in the Peace Corps with my husband.
